If you ask me about what things that I do regret? I will say “being lazy”. Why, because laziness leads me to the ignorance and being ignorant does not please me at all. I feel stupid and ignorant when there are a lot of things that I don’t know especially when dealing with academy. At least, I have to be aware what is going on around me today. For example, now is 2019, there will be president election in April 2019, maybe for anyone who has had vote, you at least should know about the candidate that you will choose, the candidate that will be the future leader for next five years, their vision and mission, their track records and anything else, you choose ‘A’ just because most people choose ‘A ’, you cannot choose one of them without any knowledge or information about them unless if you decide to abstain (will not use your vote), you don’t give any concern at all who will win the election.
But
for today’s topic is not about the election. It is about being consistent in
learning, learning anything I or you want to. Well... I admit, since I like
reading books on self development or improvement, it makes me motivated to
write something that I expect it can give a benefit for people. I do not care
whether people read and like this or not. I may not share you tips or tricks,
not at all, but it is somewhat pissed when it comes to laziness and it can
affect anything, including my goals. You know, I have got a bit awkward
experience when I was dealing with academic situation and that was being
regretted to not being study oriented student and having critical thinking,
even if there was something I knew about, something on mind, even when the
lecturer asked students something, I did not dare to speak up, instead I would
rather keep it perhaps in my heart or maybe in a pocket, ah that’s weird. But
it already happened, so I was responsible to maintain it.
As I
make realistic goals like; writing in English for my blog, money saving,
reading book even for 2-3 page before going sleep. Umh... pretty simple goals,
but in fact, to do that all, it is not as simple as you imagine. I need an
effort so I was thinking there should be motivations to make me keep doing those
goals. I mean I have to figure out and ask myself ‘why should I do it’ and
‘what is the purpose to do it’ but motivation was not enough, there should be
willpower. The willpower will make me keep motivated. A term called ‘intrinsic motivation’;
I am not sure, at glance it is perhaps like psychology term. But intrinsic
motivation is a motivation that emerges within the individuals, it is not
because a rewards or punishment. We do something is not because of others like
friends, parent, husband/wife but we simply do it right from our heart, the
reward is when we find the result from the effort we make not reward from
others so I think that’s the point of this motivation. The concrete example, if
you are a student, you study neither because you are afraid of getting a bad
marks, will not pass the test, nor getting the present from your parent but you
study because you like to study and you are happy to do that.
And
yep, I think I should have the intrinsic motivation. I am English learner. When
I learn a language like English, it is neither because of anyone nor anything
not even for my family. It is because me so I will enjoy to do it. But wait...
motivation is easy to come easy to go, I mean sometimes goes up sometimes goes
down, I know that, but I have to start, do it first. The same goes for you, when
you want to learn something new and make it becomes new habit, just try it
first. Get rid of all the things that can distract you to start a thing. And no
worry about perfectionism everybody sometimes makes mistake, I mean just
because you cannot do one of the things that you want to make it your goal once
or twice it doesn’t mean you are failed in being consistent.
Another
thing is you can also make study space if you need to though I know we can learn
and study anywhere. I cannot focus learning when things around me look messy or
like a shipwreck, so I prefer tidying up first and what about you, are you sort
of person who stay focus and just brush it over when the condition of your room
is messy? I probably can force myself facing such condition with feeling
uncomfortable. I don’t want to make things going wrong and worse with a mess, and
entitle myself like a lazy, ignorant plus messy one.
So,
yeah... the point is... No, I can only make a conclusion of all random things I
wrote above afterward, if you want to be consistent in learning make sure what
is your motivation to learn it just ask yourself. you just surround yourself
with things that can make you stay motivated and excited to learn or do something,
ignore the things that can make you unmotivated, find out ‘do and do not’. But
you have to know, the most essential of all the things to be consistent is your
willpower and the greatest of anything that has the greatest contribution of
your consistency is God’s will.
The
actual point is that this writing is pointed out to me instead of others so it
is like as if I am slapping myself. It is maybe easier said than done, in fact
being consistent is not easy, but it will be a reminder when laziness befalls me rather than tips or tricks. Thanks.
